Canada Takes LTC By Storm

By Billy S. (Northumberland Chapter, Atlantic Provinces)

As we reach the final hours of this year’s Region 1 Leadership Training Conference, I would like to say thanks to the advisors and all the DeMolays who helped make this week as amazing as it was. But most importantly, I would like to thank the staff at Lions Camp Pride for providing us with food to eat and cabins to sleep in.

This week was so fun that I hope I get selected to attend next year’s Leadership Training Conference. My favorite part of the last day was when we got to watch National Treasure. This movie just leaves me wondering if there really is a treasure; I might just have to wait until I'm 21 to find out.

The sports were also very fun. Even though my chapter wasn’t very good at anything, we still had a good time which is the most important part of these activities.

The classes were also very educational which made it so interesting. By far my favorite class was the class on committees as well as the class on term plans which made me realize that making term plans is a huge headache, and that I have some planning to do before my term as Master Councilor.

Thinking about when I first pulled up in Mom Havu’s car and saw the huge line outside of the meal hall for registration, I said to myself, “Man! I am not gonna fit in here... It’s just not gonna work.” Now, I'm leaving LTC with 34 new friends, 10 new people in my contacts, and I really don't want to leave. I hope that others in my home chapter get the opportunities to come to LTC in the future.

The group events were also very fun and interesting. During the first group event, it was just 3 of our cabin mates working together, but as the week went on, we started learning how to work as a team. In our skit, we were very confused about what to do at first until we decided as a team to show everyone how to observe the seven precepts properly. We modeled how someone could fail to observe the precepts, and how they can do it correctly. The other chapters did song parodies and everyone thought they were hilarious.

This week, we saw the growth of our chapter: how it started as just a couple of guys who did not know each other, to electing a Master Councilor, and finally, to leaving tomorrow with a whole new group of friends.

Overall, I had a great week here at LTC. Just like everyone else, I assume I will come back and I can't wait until next year when I can meet up with all my new friends again.
